A Letter from the Founder

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Eva Lenghart and I had a dream. It all started in 2004.  I was employed as an assistant accountant when I started to have a repetitive dream of creating and running leisure and education centre for people with disabilities. Since then my dream expanded through a decision to devote my life to creating and running 111 worldwide centres that provide empowerment services for people with disabilities in developing countries, who are doubly disenfranchised.

Since the start of my dream in 2004, one thing led to another and I am now employed as a full time community support worker caring for people with disabilities and am passionate and determined in making my above dream a reality.

I named my dream LASKA (as it stands for love in my birth country language, which is Slovak). Further more LASKA stands for L: learning, A: accomplishment, S: skill development, K: key to fulfilling employment (2 year vision), A: arts. Laska is about creating opportunities for people with disabilities to experience even more of life via various educational and leisure workshops.

LASKA believes in creating these opportunities based on your demand. Therefore LASKA welcomes your ideas. Eg: suggestions, times and day, area / suburb, venue for the workshops etc. You suggest it and We’ll create it, provided that there is enough demand.

Following on, in September 05 I approached my current employer with the idea of LASKA, which led to their wonderful support for a festival held in December 06. Offering 14 activities in Art, Drumming and Music, Karaoke, Go Nuts Art, Belly Dance, Drama and singing, Jewellery making, Thai Chi, Dancing and more.

Then for 8 weeks from February-March 07, we ran 5 workshops in Jewellery making, Dancing, Drumming/Karaoke, Art and Drama & Singing. During these workshops beautiful artworks were created, jewellery made and the drama workshop produced a 30min ‘Snow White’ performance for family and friends.

Now the time has come to expand LASKA to the wider community. Therefore LASKA had become an independent party and is here to serve people with disabilities.
